Entry Requirements

For health and safety reasons we have a few entry requirements, but most of the fitness and skills will be taught along your Bantham Surf Life saving journey.

  • NIPPERS Must be able to swim 25m metres in a pool (assessment dates will be sent and in the calendar)
  • YOUTH must be able to swim 400m in a time of 9:30min. (this Is due to the challenging, high paced training. Assessment dates will be sent and in the calendar)
  • Must have a FULL length wetsuit. All of our summer training is carried out at the beach and even then, the water can be cold. (Please see our sponsor Triocean for wetsuits)
  • Recognise and uphold the core club values; Respect and Teamwork
  • High attendance please!

Please remember all of our coaches are volunteers and they put in a huge amount of effort and time to allow our members to gain essential life skills and qualifications.

Introduction Session

Once you have signed up your child, you will be sent details and dates when you can come to the club house with your child for an induction session. The induction will cover; meet some of the coaches, tour of the club house and facilities, shown the different kit, meeting points, signing out kit etc.

It is planned that these sessions will run on some Sundays during February. Dates will be confirmed by email, Facebook page, Instagram page and on our calendar.

Parents please ensure your child is as well prepared as possible
  • Arriving early - ideally 10mins before
  • Ensuring they have had adequate food and water prior to training
  • Ensuring they are wearing a suitable, well fitting, full length wetsuit
  • Encouraging sun cream
  • Please discuss any medical and injuries with your child's coach before

Encourage Swim Training

Swimming is still a crucial part of surf lifesaving training. We strongly encourage all members to actively work to develop a strong swim technique, speed and stamina. This could be done in your own time at the local pool or can be done on our Wednesday winter pool training. We have many coaches who are willing to help improve you and your child. Please see calendar for dates. Below are guideline swim targets to become a future lifeguard:
