Bantham Surf Life Saving Club
Juniors
Bantham SLSC will run its Junior training programme every Sunday from the 13th June to mid September 2010 from 13:00 to 14:30 every Sunday and is co-ordinated by Duncan Norris.
The intention for the 2010 season will be to develop individual skills which closely mirror those already used by the qualified Beach Lifeguards. The emphasis will be on all round competence in life saving in the beach environment, leading to the ability to pass the Beach Lifeguard NARS award when 16 years old and become a qualified Beach Lifeguard. Training and education will focus on:
- Life Guarding skills and knowledge
- First Aid
- Practical water based skills
- Fitness for beach lifeguarding
Any Junior who intends to take the NARS award in 2010 MUST shadow a minimum of 2 lifeguard patrols during the season. Please see the club captain or the senior lifeguard on duty to agree the dates of your patrols. Juniors are also recommended to undertake additional training on both board paddling and competence and swim training.
The club also runs swim training one night a week in Kingsbridge pool during the off season. Supervised coaching sessions will start in October. These sessions are aimed at improving swim technique and stamina and completing the timed swim requirements of the NARS. These sessions are a MUST for any junior wanting to take the NARS Beach lifeguard award.
